    Malta, which already promotes the most exclusive Malta Citizenship by Naturalisation for Exceptional Services by Direct Investment globally, is now rolling out a higher security passport.

    The new Maltese passport will be one of the most secure passports within Europe and will replace the existing version towards the end of 2019.

    The new passport will include the following new security features;

    • UV and IR prints.
    • See-through window.
    • Diffractive Optically Variable Image Devices (DOVID) features for visually impaired travelers

    The new passport also includes an advanced bio-page solution that fuses together various individual layers by using tremendous pressure and heat. As a result, it creates a secure card that can safely capture the passport holder’s details.

    The personal data will be then laser engraved on the polycarbonate bio-page, producing a very high-quality definition image replica.

    The pre-production testing is being led by De La Rue, a company that manufactures security printed products, including banknotes, passports.

    However, the current passports in circulation will remain valid for travel until their expiry date. Upon renewal, the new passport will be issued for no additional charges.

    For applicants, complete your form and submit it at the Passport Office. Your facial biometric image, signature, and fingerprints will be taken there as well. Applicable fees may be paid through cheque, cash, or card.

    Your passport will be ready four working days after you complete your application. Bring a valid ID card when applying for and collecting your new passport.

    The new Maltese passport is available for successful applicants of the Maltese Citizenship by Naturalisation for Exceptional Services by Direct Investment as well. The programme requires a donation of €650,000, a qualifying property together with an investment of €150,000 in securities listed on the Malta Stock Exchange.
